In 1 month ubuntu 14.04 will be out but splashtop personal can't be even installed since it depends on libavcodec-extra-53 and ubuntu 14.04 supports a newer package version, libaccore-extra-54 to be more specific, when are you guys going to upgrade your code to work with the new libraries?

Drsbuy I also am trying to run Ubuntu 14.04 and cannot get Streamer to run (although it seemed to install via Software Center).

Northreign I got splashtop running on a clean install of 14.04 by:
Downloading: http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/pool/main/x/x264/libx264-123_0.123.2189+git35cf912-1_amd64.deb
Installing it: $ sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/lib*
Installed splashtop via Software Center where it now finally installed.
Started splashtop via command-line as launcher icon failed to work: $ python /opt/splashtop-streamer/SRStreamer.pyc
Tested and working. Don't know how well yet, but it worked.
Possibly some other variations on how to get it working, but this worked for me.
With 13.10 it was working from Software Center after a couple of months or so from official release date so could be the same here too as various ubuntu packages are updated I guess.
In my opinion though I expect to see a new version of Splashtop for 14.04 since its an LTS - though not necessarily any time soon - at least if they haven't given up on linux.

Northreign My bad. That was for streamer. Just for that, I installed splashtop personal for the OP:
Download the installation package directly from splashtop here: http://www.splashtop.com/linux#download-client
Download these three files: http://security.debian.org/debian-security/pool/updates/main/liba/libav/libavutil51_0.8.10-1_amd64.deb
Install those three files: $ sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/lib*.deb
Install splashtop personal: $ sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/spl*.deb
Hit super key (windows key) or click on ubuntu dash and type "spl" or whatever, click to open, and enjoy.
Yeah, so its probably because various updated packages are not yet available for Ubuntu though they are for Debian which Ubuntu is a spoon of and so all is good if it works.

Northreign BTW, those files are for AMD 64. If you need a different type: Go to google and search for the beginning name of each package file and the latest Debian version like for instance, "libavutil51 wheezy".
Click what should be the first link and then, scroll down to Download, and click on Architecture type you require.
On that page you can download what you need.

Ryanjuza I followed the instructions and get this error when running the python script to run Splashtop Streamer

Snipe2004 Ryanjuza, got the same error. Simply install python-appindicator :
sudo apt-get install python-appindicator
And it will then starts smoothly. It's currently working here!

Snipe2004 So, thanks a lot Northreign for the files, it was so easy with your help.
Unfortunately, the icons were quite ugly and didn't match with default dark theme of 14.04.
Here are the three icons "rebranded" by me to fit Trusty :

Normodonte In Ubuntu 14.04, if you search for Splahtop streamer you will see at the bottom "Show 1 technical item". click on it and it will enable you ton install "High-performance audio-video etc" This will enable you to install the streamer.

Gleamingjewel the version for ubuntu 12.10 is really buggy. im having troubled typing on a telnet like program (characters disappearing or not showing up) and scrolling on webpages moves so fast its really hard to control, but it is nice to at least have it working enough to view the computer

Chrison999 I've been using Splashtop Streamer on Ubuntu 12.04LTS for ages but recently had to upgrade to 14.04LTS for technical reasons and now it won't work. I tried downloading/installing libx264-123_0.123.2189+git35cf912-1_amd64.deb as suggested by Northreign, and python-appindicator is installed, but when I try loading Splashtop Streamer I get this error message:

Follow Northreign instructions in the first comments, then mine if you got stuck bu the python problem, and it could work. It seems to depends on other things, but yeah it could work on your computer, as it does on mine or Northreign's one.

Gleamingjewel Well this installed and was working for about a month then it started to say another copy of splashtop streamer is loaded and it won't load when I use
$sh -c "sleep 10; python /opt/splashtop-streamer/SRStreamer.pyc"
to load it. If I take away the sh it works fine any ideas?

Nathan It was working awesome for me for a long while, even in 14.4, but it has recently quit showing my computer as available. The streamer appears to be running fine, but I can never see my pc thru any app, any ideas?

Chrison999 Same here, Nathan. Can't see my PC either at home or via the server. I sure hope someone has a solution to this as I *really* liked using Splashtop.

Esschalm Apparently, even splashtop-client_1204_2.4.0.1-1_amd64.deb is broken on 14.04.
Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libavcodec53 (>= 4:0.8-1) libavcodec-extra-53 (>= 4:0.8-1)
This looks to me like its because libavcodec54 and libavcodec-extra-54 are the latest versions and 53 cannot be reinstalled without removing other packages assuming you have other packages that require them as I do. Otherwise you might be able to remove and try 53. Still, I don't know if it'll work after that though.The one from Ubuntu archive should install but is currently borked as well.

Hostmaster Hi, I'm trying to run Splashtop-Client (not Streamer) on Ubuntu 14.04 amd64. I was able to fix the dependencies as discussed by Northreign and others, and can make the application start, get the main application window (upper frame with menu bar loads, lower frame is just grey) and login fine, but then just run into this Python error:

Hostmaster You're mislead Spider623. http://www.splashtop.com/downloads#pers_sec lists a Splashtop Personal / Business / Enterprise *client* download for Ubuntu 12.04 only, not anything newer (except for the streamer, but that's not what we're asking for). I have, for lack of Splashtop supporting me, turned to Nomachine NX. This competing product works well on a current Linux release with all features supported and enabled out of the box. And is available in a free-for-personal-use variant as well.
