How to uninstall Soundflower on Mac

Soundflower is a 3rd party plug-in that Splashtop uses to stream audio from a Mac.

The easiest way to uninstall Soundflower is by clicking the "Uninstall Sound Driver" button in Splashtop Streamer -> Settings.

Currently, Soundflower is not uninstalled when you uninstall Splashtop Streamer.

If you have already uninstalled Splashtop Streamer, please follow the steps below to uninstall Soundflower:

  1. Please go to Finder-> /System/Library/Extensions.
  2. Find Soundflower.kext.
  3. Remove it, then reboot your Mac.
  4. Soundflower plug-in will be fully removed from your Mac.

Our team is currently working on updating the Mac streamer uninstall process to include removing Soundflower along with it.

    This is ridiculous. I've been using Splashtop for years, and tonight it really screwed me over. Because of this Soundflower garbage, Proctorio refused to startup, meaning I was late launching my midterm. Thanks Splashtop.

    Sorry to hear that.

    We are not much familiar with Proctorio. Does it use Soundflower to stream audio as well?

    Could you let us know more details and let us know anything we can do to help to prevent the same issue recurs?

    Thank you.

    I use Splashtop for remote access and the bundled Soundflower is causing a bug with my music software.  The technical details are here:

    Please consider replacing this library or working with the maintainers to fix the bugs that it causes. <3

    The most relevant comment in this thread was posted over three years ago. You've replied to all of the others besides that one.

    This third party plug-in should be removed with your uninstaller. Splashtop is a nuisance to its users otherwise. Case in point: I had to use search engines to remove software that you installed.
