What NVIDIA optimization does Splashtop support?

We at Splashtop have optimized our products for users who have a NVIDIA GeForce/Quadro graphics card in their computer and/or a Tegra 2 CPU in their tablet.  What this translates to is higher frame rates and lower lag time that will lead to a better experience for all remote desktop usages, especially multimedia.  Users will notice that their videos, movies, games, and other graphic-intensive content will be even more lag-free and smoother.

Optimized_for_GeForce2.png

Hardware requirements:

  • GeForce 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 series notebook or desktop GPUs with at least 512MB FB.
  • Currently does not support Optimus configurations.
  • NVIDIA GeForce graphics started to support SLI since driver v310.70.

Driver / OS requirements:

  • Windows 7, Windows 8 32-bit, or 64-bit.
  • NVIDIA driver 275.33 and later.

Benefits:

  • Higher frame rate.
  • Lower lag time.
  • Play games or use applications in full screen.

How to enable it:

  1. Download the attached registry file.
  2. Right click on it to execute it as an administrator.
  3. Restart the streamer or reboot the computer.
  4. Then the feature will be activated.

Current Limitations:

  • Only supports single display configurations (one monitor).
  • 'Blank screen' option should be disabled.
  • Will not re-direct protected content playback on the PC.
  • If you get a black screen by enabling this feature, please disable it to work around the issue. Here are the steps to disable it:

a.  Execute regedit.exe on the computer with the streamer installed.
b.  Double-click on it to execute it.  (This step may trigger a confirm dialog box by the system; click Yes to execute if it pops up.)
c.  Search registry key "EnableNvFBC". Then change the value of the key to "0".
d.  Exit Splashtop Streamer by right-clicking on the icon in the System tray.  Then launch the Streamer again from the Start menu.  (Re-booting the computer can produce the same effect.)
e.  Try to connect again and see if the "black screen" issue is gone.

note.gif  Notes:

  • If SLI is enabled, this will conflict with GeForce optimization.  Please remember to disable SLI when GeForce optimization is enabled.  (Updating the driver to 314.07 or above may help.)
  • If SLI is enabled, this will prevent Splashtop THD from being able to play games/movies in full-screen mode.  Please disable SLI if you want to play games/movies in full-screen.  (Updating the driver to 314.07 or above may help.)
  • During our usage cases, we found that enabling or disabling SLI did not require a computer re-start.  However, if a re-start is requested in your case, please share the details about this with us regarding your system info (for example Win7/Vista, 32/64 bits, etc.).
  • If your system is equipped with dual displays like Intel+NVIDIA, NVIDIA is usually not the primary display. Please disable Intel display from BIOS or its utility program, and connect NVIDIA with a proper cable (usually HDMI).  In this way, you may get the optimization working on your Streamer.

    @Xliedx,

we do not have gtx 765 here, but we tried Streamer 2.5.0.1 + driver 331.82, it works, would you mind try to upgrade Streamer and driver to see if it could work?

    Hello xliedx,

I can tell you that I got this working about a month ago, but I will have to explore how to do this again. I don't believe it should technically be possible though. If you don't know how laptop hardware works, there are 2 separate GPUs. Generally the Intel GPU will take over while on battery and even plugged in sometimes. What is necessary is to force the Nvidia GPU to take over from boot so that when Splashtop opens, it looks and finds only a Nvidia chip and then it will accelerate it. I will get back to you when/if I figure it out.

Thanks Vans and Harrison for your answers!

Unfortunatly I don't have any better results with the latest nvidia drivers (331.82) on my laptop + Streamer 2.5.0.1. By any luck I was selecting the "nvidia preferred graphics processor"  in the nvidia control panel, but it did not change anything.

    Hello everyone!

I've just bought Splashtop yesterday to play Civilization 5 and XCOM on my iPad Air - so far I've only been able to run both games in super low res (1027x800 or so). No Nvidia logo in the Splashscreen program so no fullscreen - Error message pops up

My laptop is Sony Vaio (not sure about exact model, about 2-3 years old) and it has Nvidia GT540M. The drivers were just recently updated via GeForce experience app (updated mid Jan 2014).

Can someone advise if I should mess around with BIOS setup or there are no chances at all to have my laptop/video card to support fullscreen?

Okay I got the Nvidia logo but still no fullscreen for any game, even simple quests

TO ANYONE WHO IS USING SPLASHTOP WITH WINDOWS TO WINDOWS (This might work with similar software on Mac) There is software called "Input Director." You can very easily setup lag free mouse over LAN, WAN, and combination networks. This eliminates the wacky, super-sensitive mouse! I can post instructions on how to get and use it if anyone is interested.

@Dianov_alex, Can you specify on how you got the Nvidia logo? You might want to try the driver: 331.93 BETA. The reason for that is (4 of my friends and I have this issue) 332 WHQL broke Nvidia Control Panel and some of the H.264 encoding for videos and recording (on laptops with 500m, 600m, and 700m optimus GPUs).

@Ph, You might want to try uninstalling Splashtop, restarting, reinstalling Nvidia drivers, restarting, and then install Splashtop, and restarting. That process has always gotten the Nvidia logo to appear for my friends and I. The only driver that hasn't worked is the one I mentioned above which is 332 WHQL. Also make sure windows update has not overriden Nvidia Drivers. This generally only happens though with a clean install, or when updating after that clean install.

Also if anyone is interested in updating to the 334.67 drivers, we (some of my colleagues and I) can confirm that Splashtop optimization works for the: GTX 570, GTX 670, GTX 680, GTX 770, and GTX 780. So if you have one of those cards, you should get the Geforce logo and better hardware accelerated streaming. I however cannot confirm Optimus configurations to work at this point.

@Splashtop Employees, it would be incredibly helpful if someone could mention how the Nvidia card detection works whether it is reading the current GPU, default, or GPU at time of installation.

Sorry guys, last post for now. Just got Splashtop Streamer Geforce Optimization working for Optimus Laptops. However, Splashtop (for some unknown reason) will not allow full screen applications. There is a huge difference in responsiveness and quality though and the Nvidia GPU indicator becomes active as soon as Splashtop Streamer is opened so I'm 90% sure it's working. If anyone is interested, here is the way I did it. First 2 steps are just how I found the actual application name.

    1. Tracked down Splashtop Service in background
    2. Cross checked the process name with the process that starts when opening Splashtop Streamer
    3. Found application that is actually run (It's called "SRServer" in ProgramFiles x86/ Splashtop/Splashtop Remote/Server
    4. Closed Splashtop Streamer (Exited completely by going to the tool bar at the bottom and clicking the icon then hitting "Exit"
    5. Opened Nvidia Control Panel (Driver version 334)
    6. Went to "Manage 3D Settings" and hit the "Add" button then went to the executable (.exe) for SRServer in the directory mentioned in step 3.
    7. Changed "Select preferred graphics processor for this program" to "High-Performance NVIDIA Processor"
    8. Went to the game I wanted to run (you can also just enable the Nvidia GPU for all games in the "Global Settings Tab") and changed it to run with the Nvidia GPU as well
    9. Restarted
    10. Allowed Splashtop streamer to open and it had the GEFORCE logo.
    11. Attempted to launch full screen game and Splashtop didn't allow it.

This bug is reproducible using Windows to windows, android to windows, and mac to windows. Maybe there is some way to disable Splashtop complaining about the full screen... When I Alt-Tabbed, my monitor showed the game, but Splashtop still displayed my desktop.

@Nimh, sorry for the incredibly late response, but AFAIK 334 drivers are the latest that work. I also haven't had any success with 335 or 337 drivers.

Just to help everyone out. I was able to get it optimized on windows 8.1 running sli and 3 monitors. Here is the screen shot for proof.

I will say, however, that it did not work on this same exact setup with Windows 7, or when I upgraded from 7 to 8.1. I did a clean install of 8 then upgraded to 8.1 and it worked without any other help on my part.

Using a gtx780 with driver 340.52. I try to stream to my laptop. Everything is wired and wireless in the house.

No full screen gaming, only at 800x600 resolution, which is horrible.

Dubbelchecked everything twice mentioned in this topic, reinstall streamer, optimized geforce, no blank screen enabled.

This really sucks, i want to move the gaming pc away from the tv and use a laptop or android to connect to the tv.

I was successful in getting the NVidia Optimized logo to display.  I have a GeForce 210 video card.  my computer is running headless and I am using SplashTop to remote in from my SurfaceRT tablet.

    I am running Windows 8.1 pro 64bit.

I found that I had to have something (vga -> hdmi) plugged in to the video card.  I am going to switch to a dummy VGA/DVI plug. (http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=11)

I have splashtop streamer 2.6.5.10 running and NVidia 295.73.

My SurfaceRT client is 2.3.0.3 and I think that it is running well.

I am able to run "World of Goo" from Steam in full screen where I wasn't able to before getting the logo.

"(vga -> hdmi)" that I mentioned in the previous comment is a vga to hdmi converter.  It shows up as a display on the computer.

Forgot to mention that I didn't apply any registry keys and that I am not using SLI.

    Hello again,

I recently installed the latest version of Splashtop Streamer (2.5.6.10) and Remote (2.4.9.11) for Android.
What I'm noticing are regular micro lags and a high latency, compared to how it was working 1 year ago.
I did one thing, I removed the Remote from the phone and reinstalled my old .apk file (Splashtop 2 v2.4.5.6)
As result the lag and latency are now reduced to what it was before, while my main computer is using the latest version of the Streamer.

    Some infos:
    NVIDIA GTX 670, drivers 353.30 (353.30-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe)
    core i7 3770 (RAM 8GB)

    Windows (7) :

    • Splashtop Streamer version 2.6.5.10 (A) with "optimized for GeForce" logo

    Android (4.2.1) :

    • Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop v2.4.9.11 (lags in games for example)
    • Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop v2.4.5.6 r52704 (runs better)

    Thanks for your attention,
the application is excellent anyway I really enjoy it, keep up the good work!

    @Ngathany,

Does it mean NV optimization feature fails to be triggered on your Windows 10 PC? By our internal test, it should work.

    @Vans.Huang,

The "Optimized for GeForce" image is not displayed on the lower left corner of Splashtop Streamer. I also am unable to open full screen games. I receive the popup that says splashtop doesn't support fullscreen. This was working when I had windows 7 installed.

    @Ngathany,

Please follow the instructions below to see if the NV optimization feature works:

    1. Please remove the streamer from your computer. Then reboot.
    2. Update the NV driver on your computer. Then reboot.
    3. Re-install 2.6.5.12 streamer on your computer. Then reboot.

Then see if the NV image displays at streamer.
