What NVIDIA optimization does Splashtop support?

We at Splashtop have optimized our products for users who have a NVIDIA GeForce/Quadro graphics card in their computer and/or a Tegra 2 CPU in their tablet.  What this translates to is higher frame rates and lower lag time that will lead to a better experience for all remote desktop usages, especially multimedia.  Users will notice that their videos, movies, games, and other graphic-intensive content will be even more lag-free and smoother.

Optimized_for_GeForce2.png

Hardware requirements:

  • GeForce 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 series notebook or desktop GPUs with at least 512MB FB.
  • Currently does not support Optimus configurations.
  • NVIDIA GeForce graphics started to support SLI since driver v310.70.

Driver / OS requirements:

  • Windows 7, Windows 8 32-bit, or 64-bit.
  • NVIDIA driver 275.33 and later.

Benefits:

  • Higher frame rate.
  • Lower lag time.
  • Play games or use applications in full screen.

How to enable it:

  1. Download the attached registry file.
  2. Right click on it to execute it as an administrator.
  3. Restart the streamer or reboot the computer.
  4. Then the feature will be activated.

Current Limitations:

  • Only supports single display configurations (one monitor).
  • 'Blank screen' option should be disabled.
  • Will not re-direct protected content playback on the PC.
  • If you get a black screen by enabling this feature, please disable it to work around the issue. Here are the steps to disable it:

a.  Execute regedit.exe on the computer with the streamer installed.
b.  Double-click on it to execute it.  (This step may trigger a confirm dialog box by the system; click Yes to execute if it pops up.)
c.  Search registry key "EnableNvFBC". Then change the value of the key to "0".
d.  Exit Splashtop Streamer by right-clicking on the icon in the System tray.  Then launch the Streamer again from the Start menu.  (Re-booting the computer can produce the same effect.)
e.  Try to connect again and see if the "black screen" issue is gone.

note.gif  Notes:

  • If SLI is enabled, this will conflict with GeForce optimization.  Please remember to disable SLI when GeForce optimization is enabled.  (Updating the driver to 314.07 or above may help.)
  • If SLI is enabled, this will prevent Splashtop THD from being able to play games/movies in full-screen mode.  Please disable SLI if you want to play games/movies in full-screen.  (Updating the driver to 314.07 or above may help.)
  • During our usage cases, we found that enabling or disabling SLI did not require a computer re-start.  However, if a re-start is requested in your case, please share the details about this with us regarding your system info (for example Win7/Vista, 32/64 bits, etc.).
  • If your system is equipped with dual displays like Intel+NVIDIA, NVIDIA is usually not the primary display. Please disable Intel display from BIOS or its utility program, and connect NVIDIA with a proper cable (usually HDMI).  In this way, you may get the optimization working on your Streamer.

Alright, got it working with 314.07, but only after disabling PCI GEN3 on the motherboard.

Apparently there is some optimization there that the Nvidia frame buffer driver isn't handling.

As soon as I disabled it and rebooted bam!, optimized for Nvidia.

No matter what I try I am unable to get this to work. I was able to get the "Optimized for Geforce" logo to appear by setting PCI-E as my main graphics driver in the BIOS and Splashtop does seem even smoother than ever.

BUT full screen games NEVER work. Always get the error window.

I do not have SLI enabled or black screen turned on. I have checked the correct settings in the registry and I have my Splashtop to set resolution to "Best fit for local device". And I have all the latest drivers. My card is a EVGA GTX 670 FTW SIG2.

Also the oddest thing is that I can sometimes get the game to work (albeit with the damn error window on top of it) by Alt-tabbing a few times and it works great. But as soon as I click OK on the error window it minimizes again!

    Very frustrating! Any help?

Do you have to have the anywhere access pack for GeForce optimization? Sorry just can't seem to find any way to turn it on and definitely don't see a little nvidia logo on the corner and I can't launch full screen games. Geforce 525m on 314.07 windows 7 64 bit. Thanks

I've done that many times already, and downloaded older versions to try as well, one hint I found on XDA forums that I haven't tried yet is to change my monitor.

I currently have my desktop connected via analog to the monitor, someone suggested that it requires a HDMI/DVI connection to work so I'm going to try connecting it to a different monitor and different ports on the graphics card other than the dual dvi/analog interface port.

Followed all of your advice Jeff... uninstalled the Nvidia drivers completely (Which required using driver fusion)... uninstall splashtop. Rebooted. Reinstalled latest nvidia drivers. Rebooted. Installed Splashtop... rebooted. Loaded splashtop up, GeForce logo is there and.... Full screen works! Thanks for the hard work guys!

Ok, still working on it, now it does say Optimized for Nvidia and I do see the following:

    <1>Jun 25 21:57:08 [SRFeat01]:[VideoCap] NvFBC v=00000004 ccn=1 cc=0 icp=1 ok
    <1>Jun 25 21:57:08 [SRFeat01]:[VideoCap] FB Dedicated VidMem = 1994MB
    <1>Jun 25 21:57:08 [SRFeat01]:[VideoCap] NVFBC supported

    But ... then...

    <0>Jun 25 22:01:24 [SRFeat01]:[VideoCap] failed to create NvFBC!

Time to reinstall 310.70 and test again.

    @Xliedx,

    @12by12on12 ,

Could you confirm if the following conditions have been satisfied?

    1. "Blank screen: is disabled

    2. only one monitor attached (no dual monitors)

    3. the streaming contents is not protected (HDCP or BD movie...)

    GTX 780, 320.49 - Windows 8 x64

I mostly use the streamer for Mac.
I noticed retrying the games that gave me problems that apparently crash only the first time they are launched after installing the beta version streamer.

I have had problems in the closing phase of the game:
    - Bioshock Infinite
    - Dirt 2
    - Dirt 3
    - The Wicher 2

Trying to reappear the bug was not able to reproduce it except for Just Cause 2 that does not crash when closing but it was ended unexpectedly 2 times during a session of play.
Playing at a resolution of 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 at times. Most of the time I connect through the Internet and not on the local LAN as my PC is in a server farm.

I was able to work without any problem following games:

    - Age of Empires III
    - Age of Empires II
    - Amnesia: The Dark Descent
    - Awersomenauts
    - Bastion
    - Braid
    - Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
    - Civilization V
    - FEZ

All the games I have tried are downloaded from Steam.

Even Mass Effect 2 demo downloaded from Origin crash once when you first start, then they are no longer been able to notice any problems.

The log file of my streamer side is here.

If you tell me where to find the log for the client side for the Mac version of Splashtop downloaded from the Mac App Store will attach that as well.

    Forgive my English.

What about Threshold 2 aka Build 10586?, because when I updated to Threshold 2, I lost the GeForce Optimisation.

I've tried repairing the install as well and it doesn't work. I use an HDMI connection and it doesn't work. It really shouldn't be this difficult and be affecting as many people if it's a core component of the product that's supposed to work. The reality is, the install of Splashtop is on a fresh install of Windows 8 for me, brand new computer that I put together myself. I'm technically savvy and the onus shouldn't be on me to make a product work that obviously isn't. The onus is on Splashtop to get their act together. I know their uses have increased exponentially, but their customer service must improve. This is an ongoing issue for many or us that has no apparent resolution and acknowledgment that its a situation that Splashtop is looking into solving on their side.

Maybe the original post should be changed to say that only drivers up to v.314.07 works (currently it says "310.70 or above" which is misleading). Anyways I hope this gets fixed soon since the older drivers don't support the newer 700 series cards.

    Hello xliedx,

I can tell you that I got this working about a month ago, but I will have to explore how to do this again. I don't believe it should technically be possible though. If you don't know how laptop hardware works, there are 2 separate GPUs. Generally the Intel GPU will take over while on battery and even plugged in sometimes. What is necessary is to force the Nvidia GPU to take over from boot so that when Splashtop opens, it looks and finds only a Nvidia chip and then it will accelerate it. I will get back to you when/if I figure it out.
