How do I use "Local Mode" in Splashtop Personal / Splashtop 2 (for iPad) ?

Reminder:  "Splashtop 2" is now known as "Splashtop Personal."

By popular demand, starting with Splashtop Personal/Splashtop v2.1.x, we've brought back a highly-requested feature known as "Local Mode."  Local Mode is used for automatically finding the computers (that have Streamers installed) within the same network.  Now, when using Splashtop Personal/Splashtop v2.1x (just as with the older Splashtop v1.x versions), you will be able to use this feature directly in a closed network, and you will not be required to log in with a Splashtop Account.  Please follow the instructions below to enable and use it.

note.gif   NOTE:  Local Mode is for iPad only, because all iPad users have been converted to Splashtop Personal (Splashtop 2) and no longer have access to such functionality that was in Splashtop 1.

1.  In the Streamer, you can only create a security code in the Security tab (shown below) or the Others tab and leave all other settings as default or empty.  (Example illustration below is using Windows Streamer v2.2.5.1.)

2.  On the iPad, log out of your Splashtop Account on the iPad (if currently logged in).

3.  Click the "I want to use Splashtop 2 in a closed network" link at the bottom (indicated in the illustration below) to enter Local Mode.

4.  After entering Local Mode, you will see all available computers within that network listed.  Click the "Edit" button (at the right side, as indicated in the illustration below) to change the resolution option used by iPad.

5.  If you don't see any computers listed automatically, but you know there should be, you can also add them manually as follows:

a)  Click the  icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

b)  Select Add Computer, as indicated below.

c)  Manually type the data for the following three items:

    • In the IP Address field, type the computer's IP address.  (If you don't know what it is, you can get it from the "Advanced" tab in the Streamer dialog box.)
    • The behavior of the Security Code field is the same as it was in Splashtop v1.  This is the code defined in the "Security" tab(for Streamer v2.2.5.1 or above) or "Others" tab(for Streamer v2.2.0.2 or less) of the Streamer dialog box.  If you leave it empty here, you will be asked to input the Security Code every time you attempt to connect.  You can also input the security code here to get a direct connection, without being asked for a security code when you want a connection.
    • The Port field already contains a default number, and we recommend that you do not change it.  However, if you need to use a port number different from the default value, you do have the option to enter it manually here.    NOTE:  Remember, the two subsequent port numbers will also be used.  For example, if you enter 6800 in the Port field, then ports 6801 and 6802 would also be used.

d)  Click the Add button.

6.  Repeat Step 5c above for each computer to which you may want to connect (IP Address, Security Code, and Port).

note.gif   NOTE:  After an IP address has been added, you cannot edit it again.  You would need to delete it and then add a new one if necessary.   To delete an added computer, just hit the icon in right end side;  then click the Delete button to remove it.

7.  Whenever you want to go back to "Splashtop account mode," please click the Exit button.

    Splashtop Remote on IPad with win 7 doesn't work on local mode. Streamer stay " not available" if no internet connexion. If i connect computer to Internet once time to active Streamer then disconnect to use in a local mode, Ipad sees PC in local mode ( icon online) but I can't press  on this icon; so I can't join PC.

    Local Mode / Direct Connect should be available on Windows client as well!  I don't want to use your slow cloud resource!  I can port forward and enjoy a faster connection.

    The same happend for splashtop whiteboard. No offline option... i cant make that work with adoc network. And as somebody said before, it is really disapointing that a good app requires an internet connection and without it wont work. In my case the internet is unstable in the place where i will use the app, so there is no use for it. I hope the devs take notes of this for future releases. Regards.

    I'd really like to leave my comment here also. I bought the app in order to use only via LAN connection to the internet but unfortunately the app does not work ie I threw my money away. already sent to the call center application but unfortunately it seems the biggest complaint of all users here in these comments is in relation to this issue of the application does not work without the presence of the internet, but only with a local network through a wifi router . The customers who bought and paid for app immensely'd like a solution that is given is for you to come and make it work the way you guys and promise to sell the application to the whole world through the apple store. Was I mistaken or another I'll have a solution for my and other colleagues who were also deceived. Is registered here my indignation

    Why the heck isn't this available on ALL version 2 clients? I would use it again if I could do the same on windows, etc. I don't own, use, or want an ipad.

    @Caldwelljt and others who also need local mode for non-iPad platform:

    Local mode works just like v1 Splashtop apps, and there is only Local mode on iPad since there is no v1 app for iPad anymore; however, for other platforms, please you could refer to http://www.splashtop.com/personal#otherproducts-tab for v1 apps which supports local LAN remote connections without entering your Splashtop Account credential.

    Hope it helps.

    @Vans.Huang:

    I refer to the URL you given, however, unable to download Splashtop v1 app for Mac, seem like the app is already removed from Mac AppStore.

    Is there another source to download Spashtop v1? Most of my company servers won't have Internet access so I rely on Local Mode to access them from my MBA. Even though iPad's Local Mode works fine, due to my special workflow, I have difficulty to work with remote servers on my iPad. Full platform client on MBA is still preferred.

    I just bought splash top 2 for my iphone, only now finding out that it will not work in a closed network (which is where I need it and use an ipad solution that does work.

    When do you intend to make the local network functionality available for iphone and/or is there another temporary app I should use in the mean time?

    Best,

    arend

    @Xiblack,

    Just like you mentioned, generation 1 Splashtop app for Mac is no longer available for some technical concern.

    @Arend,

    It is generation 1 Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPhone which could support establish remote connection in a closed network, you could find the download link at http://www.splashtop.com/personal#otherproducts-tab

    I managed to get local mode work, using port forwarder router, splashtop client v2 and splashtop v1 on my android phone. but the sound latency is a bit annoying and laggy fps. splashtop v2 android not support local mode. this time I will try using v2 client, maybe can fix sound latency and fps.

    I am using splashtop personal to access my pc from an android device. i use it mostly over a local wifi connection without internet access. my problem is that every time i launch the app on my android phone, i have to enable data connection to log in. only then am i able to access the local computer. i find this to be frustrating especially when i dont have any airtime for data. is there a way for the app skip the log in process for someone who wants to use a local network?

    @Steve,

    Using Splashtop Personal, you must log in your Splashtop account to make it work. It is generation 1 Splashtop remote desktop that does not need a Splashtop account.

    You could still find generation 1 app on Goole Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote&hl=en_us

    @Damien,

    There is no plan supporting this on Splashtop Personal desktop version app.
