Why do I get a "satellite" icon on the computer name? My tablet and computer are on the same local network.

    I've done everything above as well.  Even went so far as to completely shut down all firewalls and antivirus stuff on my system.  The other computer on the LAN connects just fine, but I'm at my wits end.  I use this computer in my business, and it is unable to connect.  Very very frustrating.

    Does your work network have proxy server setting up or using VPN together? Spalshtop 2 currently still doesn't support proxy but we are working on it. If you are this case, please wait for our update.

    Logout/Login back Splashtop account on both ipad and streamer, then click "Scan" button several times may help to get satellite disappeared if it's a local network.

    BTW, could you share us what anti-virus or security software you've installed?

    I'm not using a proxy.  I'm using Norton Antivirus, but I turned it off and I turned off the Services for Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.  I also did the port fix above.  There is nothing I did that worked.  Problem in the registry maybe???  It worked fine up until 2 days ago.

    I am accessing a computer running Windows 7, the windows firewall is disabled. I run no other security software on it other than AVG antivirus which has no firewall in it. Both devices are connected to a Netgear wireless router and I also just get the satellite icon when trying to connect... quite pathetic really that the app can't just check the IP address's or whatever and realise its on the same network...

    If this issue only happened in v2.x but worked in v1.x, please confirm if there're 5 Streamer files(listed above) have been added in the exception list of Norton firewall, please remove them then re-add them again can make it work in v2.x. Please have a try.

    I also continue to have the satalite problem while trying to connect to a computer within my own network. I have tried the above solution for Window 7 (IE opening firewall ports), I have also tried adding the splashtop files to MS security essentials exclusion list (although I was unable to find the file SRLogin.exe).

    Other attempt I made at getting a local connection to work include:

    Giving my computer a Static IP, then enabling the same TCP ports 6783-6785 on my router's firewall.

    Disabling windows firewall completely.

    Logging out and in after every setting change both on my desktop and on my Nexus 7 tablet.

    Hitting refresh on the tablet app over 9000 times.

    None of these attempts worked to establish a local connection.

    Other information about my setup that might be relevant:

    I'm using 64 bit windows; my desktop is connected to the network via an ethernet cable, while my tablet is connecting via wireless.

    The desktop's cable connection actually goes through another router before getting to the main wireless router, although this 2nd router is only acting as a switch.

    If I can provide any other information that will be useful just let me know. I like this app but will not renew my subscription if the local area connection cannot be established. Using the remote connection with it's lag while I am a mer 15 feet away from my desktop is unacceptable. Please notify when it is fixed.

    It looks like a two NATs network in your case.

    Could you confirm your scenario?

    You have two routers.

    router#1:main router, router#2:switch,

    router#2 connects to router#1, and got an IP address assigned by router#1

    In this scenario, if your ipad connects to router#1, and computer connects to router#2, Splashtop would treat it as a different network case.

    Could you try connecting your ipad and computer to a same router(router#2 in your case) to see if ipad can see this computer without 'satellite'?

    It seems that router#2 is acting as a bridge, not a switch. As I cannot find an IP address associated with router#2 in router#1's DHCP Client List.

    To me this means that all of my devices are on one network. (they all appear on the DHCP list as 192.168.2.#)

    Do you still believe this to be an issue if router#2 is a bridge?

    @Chris Stevens,

    If router#2 is a bridge, it should work as a local network. BTW, if you never restarted your computer, please restart it to see if helps.

    Another suggestion is check your ports on Streamer/Others tab, try default 6783 and another port like 8783 to see if there's difference.

    BTW, there's  a local connection between your 'Android-Nexus 7' and  'Rah-PC' on 10 Sep. Isn't it the case you want?

    Just a confirmation, have you opened ports used by Splashtop Streamer from Windows? (section#1 as above article)

    Please remember to restart pc after ports setting modified.

    Thanks for the quick reply. Yesterday I just got down to business and redid my home network so that that wireless router and non-wireless router switched places. This meant that the Rah-PC and my nexus 7 were connecting through the same router and it did indeed find it to be in the local network. This solved my overall goal. I now believe the router#2 was acting like a switch (and still is) but i still find it strange that splashtop views these types of home networks as remote.

    This brings up another question though. How much information are you able to gather about a client's connections? You mentioned that you were able to tell my nexus 7 and PC were able to make a local connection. How much more about a clients activity are you able to tell?

    Really need some help. iPad (1) and Computer (Win7 32bit) can't connect either through the local wireless network (keep getting the satellite sign on my computer), or the local mode (after adding the computer IP, can see it but when click connect, just says that it can't). Tried the following:

    1. add the port to windows firewall as instructs, no use => completely turned off windows firewall, no use at all

    2. using McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7.0i, don't believe it has any firewall in it, but turned it off anyway, still does not work. Don't think I have any other firewall installed.

    3. logged in and out of Splashtop 2 on both computer and iPad several times; plus restarted computer. still no use.

    Please give me some advice. Heard so many good things about Splashtop 2, please do let me connect and at least have a try...

    Don't know what additional information you would need. I just checked the IP address of both my computer and the iPad, both are in the form of xxx.xxx.x.x, with on the last digit different. So I guess it means we are on the same network, right? Can't think of anything else I can do... Please help.

    It's a little weird that closed all firewalls but still can't get local connection. Anyway, please try these suggestions:

    1. clear cache of ipad1 : double click on Home > long tap on Splashtop 2 app icon > click 'x' to clear all icons. Then try again

    2. what's your router? if your router has a setting option "AP isolation"(usually from dd-wrt firmware), please disable it, else, it will block all devices/computers connecting to it unable to see each other.

    Please also send us your log files on ipad and streamer for our engineering to have a further check if the above suggestions don't work.

     

    How to get log file on Streamer side(PC)?

    Find it from C:\Program Files\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server\SPLog.txt

     

    How to get the log file from the iPad?

    1.  Open the app on the iPad, then click the "Settings" icon (it's the "gear" icon in the upper right).
    2.  Log out, then append  @@@@@@beta  to the end of your Splashtop Account.
    3.  Log in again.  A new tab named "Experimental" will appear on the same page.
    4.  Click the "Experimental" tab.  Then click "Send debug information."  Your mail client app will be opened, and a log file "[strc-ioslog]date-xxx_time-xxxx.log" will be attached.
    5.  Send it yourself, then attach it here, or on the support ticket.

    We only record the connection time/type(local/remote) and the device/computer names for support purpose. More detailed info(about network) need users to send us back the log file. If you still can't make the configurations to be in a local network, we may need you send us your log file from streamer. Android device doesn't support extracting log file yet.

    Hi, think I may have found another thing to look at/try with thhis persistant 'satelite' state.

    I'vewill be different just installed splashtop on my Galaxy tab 10.1, and win 7 laptop, and had problems getting the laptop seen as being local

    I tried everything listed above, with no luck, so thought I go check my router settings to see if there was anything.

    turns out my router wasnt allowing UPnP connections as a security measue, so I needed to be enabled for each network device in the router settings. Other routers will be different in the way you do this, but it may help

    since i upgraded to splashtop streamer 2 i have been unable to use it. Firstly i paid for an app that could do remote access, and now this is chargeable. (not very morale). Anyway, i cant even use the app now on the ipad. i can on my android fine, but on the ipad it shows the computer but it is greyed. out. I have disabled all my security even antivirus. I have one wireless router and so not a complicated network. i have other remote apps such as air video that connects no problem. This app was brilliant until you totally ruined it.

    I am not very computer savvy. I have an iMac connected to my network through an Apple Time Capsule router. I also have a Galaxy Tab 1 that is running Android 4.0.4.  I have the Splashtop client installed on my desktop and my tablet. Both of the computers are on the only network in my home yet the iMac shows up on my tablet with the satellite icon indicating it is online but on a different network. This is just not true.  My firewall is turned off on the iMac and I am not running any other anti-virus software at this time.  There does not appear to be anything to interfere with them connecting yet they will not. Please advise.

    Splashtop on my iPhone works well but on iPad I got a satellite icon, I've tried above method but still didn't work :(

    @Tim Chu,

    Please confirm your ipad is connecting to same router as your iphone. Otherwise, you'll need another service AAP activated for the connection between different networks. It's a subscription model with monthly or yearly subscription fee.

    Could you confirm if the IP address of your tablet is 10.0.1.x, in the same subnet as your iMac?

    @jaff Thanks for the quick reply but my iPhone and iPad and my Mac are all working under same router, iPhone's splashtop works well but not iPad, I think it's not about router or computer or splashtop account, probably something wrong with iPad, are the IP address, DNS sort of things on my iPad affecting? Thanks

    @Tim,

    If your ipad and iphone connect to a same router, but only ipad see the satellite, please try these suggestions.

    1. wait for 30 sec, or click "re-scan" button several times to see if helps (upper left corner)

    2. logout/re-login Splashtop account

    3. clear cache for those apps running in background (double-click Home > long tap on the icon at bottom)

    Dear all, I'm having a problem as described above allready but unfortunately i didn't find the solution yet. Can somebody please help. I'm talking about the following scenario "I have two routers. router#1:main router, router#2:switch, router#2 connects to router#1, and got an IP address assigned by router#1 In this scenario, if your ipad connects to router#1, and computer connects to router#2, Splashtop would treat it as a different network case." I did allready the following; 1 add port rulle on my firewall of the Windows 7 machine, 2 port forwarding on mainrouter1 to router 2 3 port forwarding on router 2 to my Windows 7 pc Hope to hear from you becasue I'm out of options.     Update: problem solved. I was so stupid to forget switching my 2nd router into "switch" mode. No dhcp server and usage of lan port instead of wan. After i did this, problem was solved! Splahtop is running smooth and works great! Good work guys!
